Poll Reveals 10 Most Irritating Words on the ‘Net

DAY 129: fucking disgustedThe problem is that I can only find seven of the 10.

Today the Lulu Blooker Prize, a literary award for books, released the results of a poll that listed the top most irritating words that make one, “wince, shudder or want to bang your head on the keyboard.”

The study was conducted by YouGov for the Lulu Booker Prize earlier this month. YouGov is a British polling company.  The study was based on a sample of 2,091 adults.

Did they leave out the other three because they were so horrible that they couldn't be listed?

It's hard to say because I haven't been able to find the original release at either the Lulu Blooker or YouGov sites, but according to an article at Yahoo, here are seven of the top 10 most irritating words:

1. Folksonomy, a term for a web classification system

2. Blogosphere, the collective name for blogs or online journals

3. Blog

4. Netiquette, or Internet etiquette,

5. Blook, a book based on a blog

6. Webinar

7. Vlog

8. Social Networking

9. Cookie, a file sent to a user's computer after they visit a Website

10. Wiki, a collaborative Website edited by its readers

Since it seems that the other three irritating words are “lost,” I thought it might be fun to guess what they might be.  Hopefully later I will get the release and we can see who might be closest.

My picks for the most irritating are: Web 2.0 (or PR 2.0 for we comm types), Vlog, and Viral.

What do you think?  Which words bug you the most?

Update: There are people out there in the “blogosphere” that are true servant leaders, and Max Christian Hansen, a retired management consultant and part-time pastor of a church in California is one of them.  Thanks to an eight-hour odessy that led him to this article, we now have the missing three annoying terms.  Max votes for “meme” as his least favorite. It didn't make the top 10 list, but I am sure some would agree.  Thanks Max!
