Kate Moss Ad is Balm for PR Crisis
It seems that model Kate Moss is attempting to refresh her “personal brand” in a self-depreciating commercial for Virgin Mobile. The ad debuted last night on the Internet and will be shown on television starting Saturday.
Moss fell from grace after she was photographed using cocaine in a recording studio in September and has since lost most of her modeling contracts.
A New York Times article pegs the idea of an image boost via advertisement as a trend among celebrities, including Paris Hilton and Hugh Grant.
The commercial shows that Moss has a sense of humor and can poke fun at herself. She has also since been through drug re-hab.
It is an interesting way for celebrities to reframe their image (while being paid of course) after a scandal. However, they have to find a corporate sponsor to take a chance.
It also doesn’t hurt to have friends. Richard Branson of Virgin Mobile has been friends with Moss for 18 years.
