Social Media: Facebook Friends Compile Summer Reading List

July 3, 2007 by Kami Huyse

While I haven't written about it much, I have been using social networks a lot lately to put together some of the things I share with you here at Communication Overtones.  A fun exercise started a few days ago when Geoff Livingston used a new question feature on Facebook to ask his network to help him compile a list of recommended books to offer as additional reading on social media for his upcoming book, "Now is Gone." Here is the the list of 25+ must-read social media, marketing and PR books. This list was compiled by Chris Abraham, Toby read more...

AOL News Relaunched As a Blog – Sort of

June 28, 2007 by Kami Huyse

More evidence that the mainstream media is repositioning itself to take advantage of new technology is the AOL News relaunch this week into a blog format. With the popularity of its TMZ gossip blog and its Fanhouse blog, the conglomerate figured, "Why not go for the whole enchilada?" Problem is that the news "blog" just is formatted like a blog, with some social media tools such as bookmarks, a mechanism to vote up or down on the article and a way to share the story read more...

Newspapers Adapt: Video from the Newsroom Goes Viral

June 27, 2007 by Kami Huyse

If you haven't been sleeping under a rock, you will know that the Apple iPhone goes onto the market this Friday.  I haven't written about it because it is perhaps the most overblown product launch in the history of mankind. However, it has brought out an interesting phenomenon.  Last week, theNew York Times announced (via Beet TV) that it would share embed of its video clips with the public via YouTube by the fall. Also last week the Washington Post announced that it would read more...
